In private practice since 2000, Laura Ter Poorten has been practicing psychotherapy since 1996.  A specialist in the treatment of children, adolescents, and young adults, she co-founded and directed a consortium of private practioners, including MDs, PhDs, PsyDs, LCSWs and LPCs, in Virginia for over a decade before relocating to New York with her family.  She maintains licensure in New York, Virginia, and Texas.  She has testified as expert witness on behalf of children, and she has worked as a child advocate in the court system, including by securing closed-circuit testimony for child victims of sexual abuse.  She has worked extensively with EAP systems and is credentialed as a supervisor of Licensed Professional Counselors.  She has significant experience working with military personnel and their families and was the first volunteer intern at the Baylor Richardson Medical Center inpatient mental health unit.  She is credentialed by most major insurance companies.
